This course is for beginning students. Instructions and activities will be based on grammar and a cultural understanding of the German language.

Upon completion of this course, a student should be able to perform the following tasks in German proficiently:

1. speak and understand basic German numbers and understand the Euro monetary system;
2. read a German menu and order food and beverages competently;
3. find his/her way around a typical German city from a map and use its transportation systems to locate hotels, stores, and sightseeing attractions competently;
4. identify and explain some German customs and traditions in regards to food, beverages, shopping, transportation, holidays, and daily life.

This course is for advanced-beginner or intermediate students. Instructions and activities will be based on a grammatical, vocabulary, and cultural survey to determine the proper level of language proficiency.

Upon completion of this course, a student should be able to perform the following tasks in German with a good level of proficiency:

1. speak the language correctly and understand many words, expressions, and sentences;
2. write correct grammatical sentences in response to questions;
3. read paragraphs, dialogues, and reading selections and comprehend the material;
4. recognize many cultural situations and customs and react in a proper manner;
5. listen, understand, and communicate when the language is being spoken to him.

This is an advanced course for those students who have had two or more years of German language study. Instructions, directions, and communication will be done completely in German.

Upon completion of this course, a student should be able to exhibit the following skills with a high level of proficiency:

1. speak and understand German words, expressions, and sentences;
2. read and understand German reading selections;
3. write German words, expressions, and sentences;
4. understand and respond to German cultural situations;
5. listen, understand, and communicate in German when spoken to.

The review course will be structured to the student’s needs, either pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, or culture. Instruction will consist of activities and exercises in pronunciation, vocabulary, culture, and basic grammar within the context of contemporary life.

This course is a conversational approach and an introduction to the German language and culture. Instruction will consist of activities and exercises in pronunciation, vocabulary, culture, and basic grammar within the context of contemporary life. Emphasis will be placed on conversational phrases used for dining, shopping, sightseeing, and everyday life in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
