In Germany, as in America, the Christmas holiday is one of the main holidays of the year. One does not only celebrate Christmas itself in Germany, but one also celebrates several other festivals and holidays during the Christmas season.
- The Christmas season can be divided into three parts:
- Vorweihnachtzeit, Vorweihnachten (pre-Christmas season)
- Weihnachtsfeier (Christmas celebration)
- Nachweihnachtzeit, Nachweihnachten (post-Christmas season)
- Weihnachtzeit (The Christmas season) in Germany begins on 10 November (St. Martin’s Eve) and 11 November (St. Martin’s Day) and ends on 6 January (Epiphany or Festival of the 3 Kings), the end of the 12 Holy Nights.
